How Do I Join A Coven or Witch Community?

Joining a coven is a personal decision involving finding a group of like-minded individuals who share similar spiritual beliefs and practices. This is not sometimes the easiest task.

I have always been a eclectic witch, but there was a time when I was wanting to seek more knowledge from other witches, do group rituals, and worship the universe together as one.  After a lot of soul searching, my path led me back eclectic witchcraft since being a business owner in the witchcraft industry made it hard for me, let alone difficult to put in time to actually get the best out of coven life.

Here's some of the best advice I can give you while on your search for your path, especially if you seek out witchcraft in a group setting...

  • First of all, you will need to research and familiarize yourself with various witchcraft traditions and practices. Most covens follow specific traditions, such as Wicca, Traditional Witchcraft, or other eclectic paths, so test the waters by attending local pagan/witchcraft events, online meetups, or gatherings. These can be excellent opportunities to connect with individuals who may be part of a coven or have knowledge of covens in the area
  • Online communities are a great way to begin to find a coven quickly.  Join reputable online forums, social media groups, or websites dedicated to witchcraft. Many covens advertise their activities and may be open to new members.
  • Witchcraft shops and events can give you some insight or just some pretty good ideas.  Try visiting your local metaphysical or witchcraft shops. Owners or staff may have information about covens or know of local events where you can meet other practitioners.  I know that the local metaphysical shop here in Houston has their own coven, and they teach witchcraft on a sliding scale.
Attend some of these workshops, classes, or courses these shops may offer. If you've come this far, then someone should definitely be able to help you meet individuals who share similar interests, and may have information about covens.

*Networking with other witches is a must for new witches, especially those looking to join up with a group of them.

  • Find open rituals, festivals, or other public events where you can connect with individuals who may be part of a coven. If you look deep enough, you can sometime find online coven directories that will list covens or pagan groups. These directories often provide information about the group's practices, beliefs, and contact details.  You should ask for recommendations at these events, most definitely.
  • Some covens hold open circles or rituals during specific times of the year. Attend these events to get a sense of their practices, and meet members if its possible to do so.  Some covens are extremely private and confidential, so be respectful of their practices and traditions. Understand that not all covens may be open to new members, and some may require a period of getting to know you before accepting you into their group.

Remember that each coven is unique, and finding the right one for you may take time. So please be patient,
stay open-minded, and prioritize mutual respect and compatibility with the group's practices and values.
